No matter the season, people come here because there is lots do do. Check out our scheduled recreation programs below, or if self-directed fun is more your style, scroll down for some other suggestions.
In the summer months, we also run our Kids’ Only Recreation Program.
Are You A Rebel Who Lives By Your Own Rules?
Board games, books and movies: we have a small library of games, books and movies, waiting for you to use. Unlike most libraries, you don’t have to sign them out.
1885: our main hub, breakfast hall, and sometimes restaurant (from Labour Day – Canada Day). Self-serve coffee, tea, hot chocolate and snacks are available all day here. You can curl up on a sofa or play a game of table tennis or darts – 1885 is a lounge for relaxing and reconnecting.
Hiking trails: our 9 km of hiking trails are your path to wildlife – deer, birds and bunnies are often spotted here. This is a wilderness trail, so keep an eye out for poison ivy! If you’d rather have someone show you the way, we do a guided hike several mornings a week.
Canoes, kayaks and paddle boards: Our collection of water craft are available first come, first served. Just like our library, there are no sign-outs, all we ask is that you bring them back when you’re done.
Indoor and outdoor pool and fitness centre: While we highly recommend taking some time to be lazy while you’re here, if you really want to get moving, our fitness centre has a selection of free weights, weight machines, treadmills and elliptical machines. Our indoor pool features a swim-out heated outdoor portion, sauna and steamroom. Our outdoor pool has great views of the lake, and is buzzing with activity during the summer months.
Wine tasting: Every Friday and Saturday at 4:30 pm, we host a drinks tasting. It could be wine, scotch, beer or liquor, but it is always delicious and interesting.
Be a tourist: the Kawarthas region has a wealth of cultural experiences waiting for you to explore. Ask us for our favourite suggestions.
Fill your belly: a trip to Viamede is not complete without a special locavore meal. Whether you explore fine food that reflects our pioneer roots at Mount Julian, or enjoy a classically casual dinner at 1885, you’re in for an incredible experience.
Maps: want to know the best place to catch sunfish, where to pickup hot dog buns, or find the nearest art gallery? Check out our handy map below! You can turn layers on and off, to focus on wildlife viewing hotspots, shopping, and other interesting features.
