Welcome to Mount Julian, a 9 table restaurant nestled among the Kawartha forest. Chef Jay Nutt plays here, using our farm, our forests, and the local farmers. Every dish, wine, spirit and beer is carefully created or chosen to evoke a sense of time and place.
The place is Stoney Lake, surrounded by hundreds of acres of wild land, a paradise for foraging, small farming, and inspiration. The time is both 1874 and 2017. In 1874, The Inn at Mount Julian was built, becoming a well-respected respite for weary travelers. The food was well known to be “most satisfying” and “succulent,” with ingredients as fresh as they could make it north, unless they were grown on the property. This meant simple fare to fill the belly of the outdoorsman.
In 2017, the Viamede family continues to build on this foundation. The pioneer spirit inspires us, but we have the benefit of electricity and refrigeration. Our philosophy that food is best eaten where it’s grown is complemented by the availability of flavours from around the world. Forest to table is not only our sourcing method, but our way of life.
Today’s weary traveler no longer seeks a heaping plate of stewed beef, but rather a more refined experience. So, we serve up 5, 7 or 9 course tasting menus with wine and beer pairings.
Beyond 1874 and 2017, the time is also today. The chefs at Mount Julian change the menu as needed – some dishes remain unchanged for weeks, others change from day to day. We cook the bounty of the time and place. But no matter when you come, you will have one of the greatest meals in Ontario.
We offer 5, 7, or 9 course tasting menus, as well as a la carte meals.
- 5 course – $90, pairing $45
- 7 course – $110, pairing $55

Wine pairings vary by day, season, and bottle as well – most wines are hand-picked from Prince Edward County by GM Ben Sämann. Many wines can only be sourced once, and when it’s gone, it’s gone.
A social lounge serves drinks in the evening and hosts mixology classes and tastings in the afternoon.
Mount Julian Hours
Open Friday – Sunday 5-9 pm and Monday to Thursday by special arrangement.
Please call for reservations – as this is a small restaurant, accommodating last-minute guests is a careful affair. For same-day reservations, please reserve before 3 pm.
Tips? No Thanks!
In April 2017, Viamede Resort is going tip-free. We believe in paying our staff fair wages from the start, and don’t believe we should burden guests with extra fees. So, please, don’t leave tips for anyone on the resort. The price you see is the price you pay.
If you really feel the need to do something kind, may we suggest:

- Pick up a piece of trash
